Welcome to Poldark Country

Poldark - So Poldark is now on our screens and it is funny to see locations so familiar and so close to the pottery that feature in the programme. The star must be Wheal Owles and Edward, near Botallack (which I photographed last year, very atmospheric) featuring as Ross's mine. I also recognised the wheel head at Geevor mine in the background, too.

Our last Exhibition - some work still on show

Sue Lewington, Jackie Hichens and Gemma Swan - work on show during 2015
Exhibition 'Blooming Marvellous' from March 22nd
We are very fortunate to be able to show the new work of a very well known Penwith and Cornish painter and book producer, Sue Lewington and friend Jackie Hichens. Together with Gemma Swan their new exhibition 'Blooming Marvellous', opens on 22nd March 2015. With Spring sprunging there are lots of gorgeous flower paintings on show. The exhibition will continue through to the summer.
Sue and Jackie have also started a new venture together called 'Travelling Art' - "We go anywhere with art tuition for everyone" - web address on our links page.

Arrival of our 'new' kiln

Picture
We have added another kiln to our bank of kilns. Not a new one, an electric top loader, but very welcome. It was stored on the first floor of an old warehouse near the quay at Penzance, so our first big problem was how to get it out of the building! Holmans Dry Dock very kindly helped us out with their big fork lift truck, which only just, with literally an inch to spare, got it out of the doors and lowered it and into our van. It was quite spectacular, so we felt it was worth sharing some photos of the event. The kiln originally belonged to the well known Penzance based potter and sculpture Waistell Cooper, who was internationally known for his work.

Gently into the van.
Gently into the van with John all smiles, partly with his new kiln but also because it all went so smoothly . Such relief. Next problem, getting it out of the van back at the pottery. (That went smoothly, too)

John drying Pancheons in the sun.

Picture
Many people have been waiting for John to make some more pancheons, but as he has been so busy completing other orders etc.. he has only just got round to making some. They are tricky to do. Here you can see the very wet pancheons (in terracotta) having just had the white slip put on the inside, making them quite 'floppy'. So John puts them out in the sun straight away to help initial drying off.
